Help with Homework – A Guide for Parents

As an Academy we really value homework and the contribution it makes not only to enriching students’ learning but also enabling and empowering students to become independent learners; able to organise their time and workload well, skills which will stand them in good stead as they progress to either higher/further education or employment.

Here are some of the key reasons why we believe homework home learning matters so much:

  • Bridging between teacher-led and student-led learning.
  • Extending learning time.
  • Creating Opportunities for Creativity and Choice.
  • Developing the skills required for independent learning.
  • Reducing the diverging effect of home support: ie it’s about equal opportunities.
  • Communicating the values of the school and the teacher.

In response to requests from parents we have ensured students are equipped with a homework calendar to help them plan and prioritise their workload.  Click on the link to take you to the appropriate year group:

Homework Support at the Academy:

We offer a variety of support mechanisms to assist students with the completion of their homework and the DIAL club which runs every night until 4.00 is a great place to work in a quiet and focussed environment and receive targeted help and support from our Sixth Form DIAL tutors.  Equally our Study Cafe (specifically for Year 11 students) which runs Mondays - Thursdays is designed to support students with revision for their forthcoming public examinations.
