Headteacher's Blog 5th February 2021
Finally, the time has come when we are able to welcome the students back to Lipson. The Year 12,13 and 14 students have been in school today doing their tests and the rest of the students will be in school next week, starting from Monday. I know that everyone is excited at the prospect of getting things back to something approaching normal as soon as possible and I share that feeling but we must remain mindful that the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff needs to continue to be our priority.
It has been the strangest of years in so many ways, so the sooner we can get the students back into a familiar routine in school the better. We are obviously having to monitor the guidance closely but it is not just the lessons that I am looking forward to. I am looking forward to the time when we can get our students accessing the wide range of wider curricular opportunities that Lipson offers. The students need to enjoy their time with us if we are going to get the very best out of them and often it is the extra clubs, activities and visits that provide the fun. Watch this space for information on the re-launching of these extra bits and pieces as we will be putting them on again as soon as we think we are able.
Yesterday was World Book Day, don’t forget this year you have the option to download a digital voucher to print at home in return for a book, or we do have vouchers for all at school, please see yesterday’s letter for more details.
In other news, I am delighted to be able to announce that after a tough two-day interview process we will have Claire Jones joining us as Deputy Headteacher from September to lead on Teaching and Learning throughout the school. Claire is currently working at Plympton Academy but she will be a familiar name to many of you as she has worked at Lipson previously. Welcome aboard Claire, we are lucky to get you and I am sure that you will add real value to the leadership team and to the school as a whole.
Let's hope that by this time next week we will have a 'normal' week of learning under our belt and we will already be thinking, 'lockdown? what lockdown?'
Very best wishes to you all, enjoy the weekend,
Martin Brook, Headteacher
