Principal's Blog 14th June 2019
As we come to the end of GCSE season, we will give our Year 11 students a fond farewell in their leavers’ assembly on Friday. Students have worked tirelessly, behaved in a mature manner and are now looking forward to a well-deserved long summer break. I’m sure we will be seeing many of them back for their 6th form induction at the beginning of July and again in August for those all-important GCSE results. Not to mention the all-important Prom on 11th July, meticulously planned by Miss Lewis-Ward.
As one year get ready to depart for the next phase of their education, we start to welcome our prospective students of the future. Our Year 5 Monday tours begin on 17th June at 9am and will run every week. This important opportunity gives children and parents the chance to see Lipson during a normal school day. Additionally, on Tuesday 18th June at 4pm we will be holding our Open Afternoon. Families will have a tour of the school and get to engage in many interactive activities in the classroom, I’ve been told the Science experiments are always a favourite.
We had the pleasure of welcoming our new Year 7 students last night to the uniform sizing event. This was very well attended with expectant students excitedly getting equipped to join us in September.
On Sunday the 9th June our 'Co-operative Big Band' performed to a packed audience at the 'Torpoint Mosquito Sailing Club' in aid of St Luke's. This was an important engagement for the Big Band members as their parents were invited to celebrate the students' ongoing achievements as growing musicians with a social event and buffet provided from our Big Band fund. It was a beautiful afternoon in glorious sunshine and the sailing club members were completely shocked at the level of professionalism, musicianship and maturity of our students. In fact, as the students left the stage at the end of the performance, the audience spontaneously started to applaud! What a proud moment for the members of the Co-operative Big Band.
Our Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh teams will be undertaking their assessments this weekend on Dartmoor and at Whitsands. I wish them well, particularly camping and walking in such unseasonably cold and wet weather. This really will build resilience!
Have a lovely weekend.
