Thinking About Teaching?

What is School Direct?

School Direct from PTSA is a one year school based teacher training programme.

It is designed to give graduate degree students, experienced professionals and industry people an alternative pathway to a career as a teacher, whilst enabling schools to develop exactly the teachers they need.

Potential trainees for School Direct 2017-18

Wouldn’t it be great if we could reach out to potential trainees as early as possible and encourage them to apply as soon as the UCAS application round opens (usually October).

This process is underway now and we would like your help to identify Teaching Assistants or Technicians who might be suitable candidates or who have expressed an interest in teacher training. This extends to knowledge about former students who are completing undergraduate degree courses and may be considering a career in teaching.

School Experience

Some schools currently offer an Apprentice Teacher style pathway into teaching.  This is a two year route whereby the school advertises an Apprentice style Teacher position for a subject, such as English, which lasts for one academic year.  During this year the Apprentice style Teacher gains valuable classroom experience and also applies for a School Direct place starting from the following year.

Please spread the word about PTSA School Direct and share our leaflet.

Places can be booked via the following link on the PTSA website:

Facilitating School Experience

Most providers require potential trainee teachers to complete a minimum of a fortnight in a primary and secondary school to gain cross-phase experience before applying for a teaching course.  At Lipson, we offer three windows over the course of the year for potential trainee teachers to gain the requisite school based experience within their subject area.
