Sixth Form - Curriculum Offer
Lipson’s Sixth Form is currently the only provider in the city to deliver our high-quality educational offering within a innovative four-day working week. This pioneering approach ensures students receive the exact same curriculum hours, teacher contact time, and exceptional enrichment opportunities, but across a four-day week. Students attend from Monday to Thursday, leaving Friday dedicated as a wellbeing day. This structured day off promotes positive mental health and affords students the time needed for independent study, volunteering or personal milestones like learning to drive. By fostering balance and self-regulation, we hope to prepare our students for both their immediate qualifications and their future pathways in higher education, apprenticeships, or the world of work. We also encourage students to come into Sixth Form on Fridays; the common room, iStudy and all other facilities are available as usual.
Thanks to our excellent array of academic courses including A-Levels and Applied General Qualifications (BTECs/CTECs) and the new V-Levels we aim to meet the needs and interests of all students to support their future endeavours.
Students follow individually tailored study programmes which combine all of the following elements:
- A range of academic or applied qualifications that stretch students and prepare them for further or higher education, apprenticeships or employment
- Work experience, including extended, block and on-site placements, offering young people the opportunity to explore their career choices and to apply their skills in real work environments.
- GCSE English and Mathematics resit examinations if students have not yet achieved a GCSE grade 4 or wish to improve their grade for entry to some university courses and employment opportunities.
- A range of non-qualification activities so as to develop students’ wider skills, attitudes and confidence. This can include timetabled enrichment opportunities, residentials, university progression initiatives, subject specific visits and trips.
